"Cyprus: Crossroads of Civilizations" illustrated the country's history from 10,000 BC to AD 1571 and was created in cooperation with the Department of Antiquities in Cyprus to celebrate the republic's 50th year of independence. Our editor and designers worked with the Cypriot curator to produce the labels and develop the graphic identity. With the fabrication shop, we arranged objects within display cases and laid out the gallery. The 200-plus objects ranged from pygmy hippo bones, to ancient sculpture, to coins, to medieval helmets and religious icons.

Exhibits begin their progress from idea to reality in the Design and Editing Unit. We conceptualize with curators and subject-matter experts to flesh out the concept and the look of a show.

Designers capture a vision and transfer it to paper, working to communicate each project's unique message in visual terms. We design text and graphic panels, case layouts, gallery installations, and interactives—while keeping an eye on cost, traffic flow, lighting, and conservation and ADA requirements. We give an exhibit a distinct, compelling identity.

Editors handle all of the words in an exhibit, aiming for accuracy, clarity, brevity, education—and fun. We work closely with curators to develop and refine texts and labels, and we can even write an exhibit script from scratch. We help to shape the story the exhibit will tell.
