"Read My Pins: The Madeline Albright Collection" showed how the United State's first female Secretary of State used her jewelry as a tool of diplomacy throughout her career. Installed in the Shermer Hall in the Castle, the exhibit became an instant favorite with visitors young and old, male and female, who would pick out their favorite pins and discuss their meanings—the exact reason Albright wore the symbolic accessories!

The Special Exhibitions Division presents an average of 10 exhibits per year, which are displayed in the Castle- to view the Shermer Hall in the Castle clikc here! - ,the S. Dillon Ripley Center's International Gallery and Concourse Gallery, or in a Smithsonian museum. Because our venues change, we have the flexibility to select projects of varying themes: art, history, science, technology, and more.

Our small unit comprises just three people: a director, a project manager, and a registrar. Our exhibit proposals come from all over the world and then are reviewed by a committee and subject-matter experts. Once an exhibit is accepted, we oversee the process from conceptualization to installation.
